Clearwater Crossing RV to Three Rivers RV.

Odometer:  4,718 – 4,780
Average Speed: 17.8 mph (Average Speeds on GPS seem to be about 2 mph below TFT speeds on scooter even though radar guns match the scooter TFT display speed. )
Climb: 5193 ft. — Descend:  4704 ft.
58-75ยฐ F : When windy it was mostly a tailwind.

Charged for 2 hours at 6 amps (71v to 77v) while eating breakfast at the Kooskia Cafe across from the Sasquatch wall mural.

—  126 —

Today was a significantly cool day with lots and LOTS of fire smoke and haze.

The hills even showed remnants of past blazes, perhaps the ones I encountered riding my bicycle through Idaho in 2011 and 2014.

If this continues it obviously will be bad for solar charging in the 62-mile “gap” I need to travel tomorrow.

Smoke From 2022 Fires

I hope I don’t end up doing another “Bonus Lake” like I did in British Columbia on Day 66.

About 27 miles from where I began this morning there is a place called “The Wilderness Gateway Campground. “

Since the camp host has never returned my calls, I don’t know if there is any electricity onsite or not.

No one else seems to know either.

Since the “gap” between Three Rivers Resort and Lochsa Lodge climbs 11,850 feet on Highway 12 East, according to the Organic Maps app, I am guessing I will need either a very good tailwind, or a very good day for battery performance, or a miracle. or all if the above to make it the entire distance on a single charge.

Assuming those possibilities don’t occur, I’m guessing I’ll need to find at least 5-8 volts of power between here and there if I hope to arrive alive.

That would mean about 5-8 hours of solar charging in full sun, perhaps at The Wilderness Gateway CG.

I’m hoping to leave early in the morning to maximize the opportunity for solar charging beginning about 2 hours after I leave Three Rivers Resort.

However, the temperature is forecast to be down to around 50ยฐF at 7 AM tomorrow.

If the battery cells aren’t above 55ยฐF supposedly they only put out 20% of maximum power.

If I leave when it’s too cold I’ll need more hours to solar charge depending upon how quickly the cells warm up to 55ยฐ F.

As of 5:00 PM this evening ash is falling gently from the sky and the sun is mostly obscured as it begins to drop behind the mountains.

Smoke Shrouded Sunset

Another day draws to a close.

Rain is forecast for tonight.

Hopefully it will lessen the fire danger and help extinguish the fires that are now burning all around this area…
