Since it was a major commute Day for RVers, I decided to take a rest day and stay off the road just like I did on Memorial Day.

So here are quite a few pictures from yesterday, as that was fairly eventful in itself.

A few miles after leaving the Lewis and Clark Campground yesterday, I entered the “Valley of the Green Giant” on my way to Dayton, WA.

The Valley of the Green Giant!

I remember hearing the jingle on TV commercials as I was growing up, but I never knew it was a REAL place!

Now I do!

After Dayton I took a back road “shortcut ” toward Pomeroy where I planned to charge and have breakfast or lunch.

Very Nice Paved Backroads from Dayton to Pomeroy, WA

The shortcut was shorter, and much of the route reminded me of portions of the Inca Trail that I hiked near Cusco, Peru in 2009, but two very steep 9%-grade sections on washboard dirt roads made the overall travel time longer.

Both dirt sections were 2.5 miles long.

The first was DOWNHILL and was too steep for the scooter brakes so I had to walk most of the way; holding the scooter back and applying the electric-motor and the hydraulic breaks on both wheels!

The Last Resort Was a Wonderful Blessing On This Day!

After charging at The Last Resort (and having lunch, too!), the second UPHILL climb began right out of the RV Park.

I used 4th gear (40 amps to both wheels) and was able to maintain my balance on the scooter as I slowly navigated the scooter and trailer up the loose gravel and through and around the washboard sections.

It was quite a workout both uphill and downhill and my back is still a little sore today. But at least I didn’t have to walk any of the way up the hill.

Top of Blind Grade Road. Notice The Sign!

After reaching the apex of Blind Grade Road, it was all downhill on paved roads to Pomeroy, WA.

From there it was back onto the Highway 12 Lewis and Clark Trail route and the discovery of a few interesting markers by the roadside.

This one notes how they were at this particular spot in May and later arrived in Saint Louis, Missouri in September.

Lewis and Clark Were Here. Me, Too!

I’m going in reverse: I left Colorado in May and now, in September, I’m here.

This display outlines “The Forgotten Trail” section of Lewis and Clark’s expedition.

Lewis and Clark The Forgotten Trail.

Hopefully I won’t have any “Forgotten” or “Lost” sections on my Overland Scooter Expedition.

Look at the pictures carefully, zoom in as far as possible so you can see the fine details and perhaps read the words where applicable.

At last at arrived at Chief Timothy Park where I’ve had two nights of cool, restful sleep and two very nice showers just before bedtime.

Tomorrow I leave Washington and enter Idaho.

The forecast is for record-high temps…
