The Willapa Hills Trail was a very nice alternative to riding on the highway.

Too bad I didn’t discover that it went all the way to Raymond, WA. If I had known, I could have ridden on the trail all the way from Subway to Rainbow Falls CG.

At Lewis and Clark CG I even picked up a hitchhiker; a very inquisitive lad by the name of Salem.

Salem and His Dad

Salem asked a lot of questions. Hopefully he will remember all the answers he was given.

His curiosity was matched, no doubt, by the hundreds of young men in the Civilian Conservation Corps who built this camp 90 years ago.

Maybe I’ll try to visit a few more CCC sites on the way home to Colorado…
